Monthly Archives: September 2011

regular

another rainy independence day

eating avocados by the spoonful,
we grin at each other with closed lips
and our hair frizzes up from the rain.

your dad brings out the
Flask of Fancy Tequila
and you and I take a nature walk

by ourselves.
Stopping briefly by a clearing,
we discuss how you’re not really a grown-up

until you get to buy
the Fancy Tequila in the
sizable and mysterious
bottle, and how,
slashwhen we’ll ever get
to that stage

of adulthood.
For now, you say, our IDs say it’s so.
so, it’s so.
it’s that stupidly simple?
we laugh as we walk back
to the party,
nervous and
truly trying,
like saplings.
